Tillya-Kari Madrassah The 17th century. The last madrassah to have been built in Registan of Samarkand, the most beautiful and possessing a peculiar attraction of its own. It was built by the order of Yalangtush Bahadir, the ruler of Samarkand, in 1646 — 1647 on the place of the caravanserai Mirzai built during the period of Ulughbek to room a madrassah and a public mosque. It became tensely harmonious with the madrassahs of Ulughbek and Sherdor.
The interior of the mosque in the Tillya-Kari Madrassah was decorated with gold in the amount that would be sufficient for building another architectural monument. Therefore the madrassah was called "Tillya-Kori", i.e. "completely" gilded. Yalangtush Bahadir, who prefered constructing to ruling a country, died in 1656. In accordance with his will he was buried in the Makhdumi Azam Ensemble in Dahbed.
